Fix Wireless CarPlay Disconnects

A cheap way to fix spotty wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Or add a wireless connection to your car.

Spotty Wireless CarPlay Connection

I drive a Subaru Solterra, basically a re-badged Toyota bZ4X, and like a lot of Toyotas (Prius, RAV4, etc.), the infotainment works great when it works, but it can be temperamental. Especially when it comes to wireless Apple CarPlay.

For me, the wireless connection only worked about 80% of the time. I’d hop in the car, and the wireless connection would fail. Re-pairing my phone helped for a few days, then it would stop working again. I was not happy to have this new, expensive vehicle and stuck with this constant problem.

The only time it consistently worked was when I plugged in a USB cable, but that kind of defeats the “wireless convenience.”

I wanted wireless CarPlay to just work like it’s supposed to with no cable.

The Fix: A Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto Adapter

I have an aftermarket CarPlay screen in my old car and it works perfectly every time, so I tried a cheap, little adaptor for a wireless connection in my new car … and it worked!

I picked up this: Wireless Android Auto & CarPlay Adapter 2-in-1.

It’s a small, inexpensive, plug-and-play dongle. It plugs into the CarPlay port in your car (the same one you’d use for a wired connection). From there, your phone connects wirelessly to the adapter instead of directly to the car. The car thinks you are wired.

It works flawlessly. Fast connection. No random disconnects. Every time I start the car. What wireless CarPlay should’ve been.

Bonus: this model has both USB-A and USB-C connectors, so it should work in pretty much any vehicle.

❗️Don’t forget to remove your car from CarPlay in the Settings app. This device is now your CarPlay connection.

Don’t Have Wireless CarPlay? This Works for You Too.

Even if your car only supports wired CarPlay or Android Auto and never had wireless to begin with, this adapter will work. You can use it to add wireless functionality to a car that only has a wired connection.

No need to upgrade your head unit or buy a new car. Plug this in and enjoy a reliable wireless connection.
